The Arab region is facing various challenges related to climate change and conflict. These could lead to a vicious cycle of climate vulnerability, insecurity and conflict unless addressed. While addressing those challenges is imperative, they also provide an opportunity to promote peace and prosperity across the region.
ESCWA recently released its seventh report in the “Trends and Impacts in Conflict Settings” publication series which focuses on climate, peace and security in the region, and which provides a regional overview of climate security risks based on the most recent data available.
It also provides recommendations for policymakers, multilateral agencies and relevant stakeholders to mitigate these risks.
