On 30 November, ESCWA, in partnership with LAS and the UNFPA Regional Office for Arab States, organized an online capacity-building workshop for Arab parliaments on protecting the rights of the elderly.
Parliamentarians from 10 Arab countries, in addition to the Arab Parliament, took part in the workshop, which was aimed at raising the awareness of parliamentarians on their role in protecting the rights of older persons in the Arab region.
Participants discussed the model law for older persons, which ESCWA is developing in partnership with LAS and UNFPA. They also highlighted some promising experiences from Arab parliaments in addressing the needs of older persons and ensuring their rights.
