On 17 and 18 November, ESCWA participated in a virtual conference on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of things (IoT) in support of sustainability and the environment, organized by the Environmental Center for Arab Towns with the support of Dubai Municipality and the Arab Towns Organization.
A wide range of decision makers, experts and specialists discussed the benefits of adopting a broad and comprehensive approach to AI and IoT legislation, policies and plans, in order to mitigate the effects of climate change.
ESCWA stressed that AI and other emerging technologies could play a crucial role in fighting COVID-19, through tracing and monitoring data and delivering online services. It urged Arab Governments to develop their national policies, boost their productivity and attract investment to pave the way for AI deployment.
