ESCWA, in coordination with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Arab Group on Climate Change Negotiations, held an online meeting on 22 April to discuss major climate events in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and determine Arab positions on priority climate change issues.
Participants discussed an assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on the implementation of the Paris Agreement. They agreed on the urgent need to mainstream climate change in the new economic recovery plans implemented by Arab States in the short term.
The meeting, conducted as part of a project entitled “Strengthened Arab Networks and Enabling Environment for Climate Action”, was attended by 48 Arab negotiators, ambassadors and climate experts.
