For the first time in the Arab region, ESCWA and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized on 2 December an online event on "Accessible Arab Region - ICT for All" to highlight the role of accessible technology in empowering persons with disabilities in the region and ensuring the protection of their rights.
The meeting was an avenue to exchange expertise and best practices and encourage policymakers to include in the regional and national development strategies policies related to digital accessibility as a catalyst for broader social and economic participation, thus reducing the digital divide and inequality between population groups.
To this end, ESCWA has placed the Arab Digital Inclusion Platform at the disposal of Arab Governments and invited them to engage all sectors in the policymaking process and not only those related to technology.
