On 14 and 15 November, the ESCWA Committee on Technology for Development held its fourth session in Beirut, during which it followed up on progress in technology-related activities in member States and the ESCWA secretariat.
The Committee also discussed opportunities and challenges with the metaverse, a project to create an enabling environment for tech-driven entrepreneurship, while promoting the use of innovative technology to improve operations within Arab public institutions. It also tackled an action programme to advance digital cooperation and development in the region in the next five years.
The Committee was tasked to monitor regional priorities when it comes to technology for development, including information and communications technology, internet governance, as well as areas related to scientific research and technology transfer.
