Within the framework of the Regional Initiative to Promote Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND), funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), ESCWA is organizing a regional multi-stakeholder forum on “Upscaling investment on small-scale renewable energy in rural areas: a cross sectoral approach”, in partnership with the National Agency for Energy Management.

The forum intends to demonstrate the sustainability of the regional initiative and its impact to support inclusive small-scale renewable energy applications. It serves as a platform for multi-stakeholder engagement and partnerships that support integrated business models and access to micro-finance. It is also a matchmaking platform that sheds light on a diverse range of policy and financial levers to address barriers and augment investment in small-scale renewable energy through a cross-sectoral approach that is adopted by REGEND and was implemented in Tunisia, Lebanon and Jordan and is being extended to Algeria and Mauritania.

The forum also includes the launching of two ESCWA publications: REGEND’s Best Practices Toolkit and the technical paper on de-risking investments in small scale renewable energy in rural context.
