Since its establishment in 2010, ESCWA Technology Centre has been assisting the member countries to harness science and technology for enhancing their socio-economic development and establishing their national technology development and transfer systems. In support of addressing the challenges of the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development which was launched in late 2015, ETC developed a responsive work plan targeted towards assisting the member countries in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 7th ETC Technical Committee Meeting will be held in accordance with the ETC Statute, to give guidance to the Centre on its work program for 2020 based on identified key regional technological priorities that relate to its work, as well as to identify countries’ priorities and challenges in harnessing national capabilities in Technology Transfer and adaptation in the implementation of the sustainable development goals.
The specific objectives of the meeting are:
  • To deliberate and share experience on innovative green technologies that are considered imperative to promote sustainable development;
  • To discuss the needed appropriate technologies for member countries that could assist in achieving their national development plans; and
  • To guide ETC in prioritizing its focus areas in 2019 – 2020 on technology transfer and adaptation for achieving the agenda 2030 and its goals.
 In addition, an interactive exhibition/display will be showcasing examples of green technologies that could be applied in member countries to enhance implementation of SDG 12. Space is available for institutions to display information if they request before end of June 2019.  The initiative “DAWReK’N” “دوركُ-نَّ” (the National Observatory for Women in Research) hosted by the National Council for Scientific Research - Lebanon (CNRS-L) will also be introduced during the meeting, which aims to support Lebanese female researchers.
