Smart cities and localizing Sustainable Development Goals

This capacity-building workshop falls under the umbrella project Inter-Regional Cooperation on the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda. It aims to support the municipality of Agadir, Morocco in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly supporting the localization of the SDGs. The sessions respond to the needs of the municipality of Agadir in terms of the voluntary local review (VLR) process, organized by UN-Habitat, ESCWA and United Cities and Local Governments of the Middle East and North Africa. 

The training advances the development of the VLR process by improving knowledge and expertise in sustainable development, including data, partnership building, and evidence-based policy and decision-making. It contributes to strengthening the localization of the SDGs, multi-level governance, formulation, monitoring and implementation of local policies, programmes, and projects and plans for smart, sustainable and inclusive cities, especially in the framework of the Municipal Action Plan.

Outcome document

The workshop plans for smart, sustainable and inclusive cities, especially in the framework of the Municipal Action Plan. It advances the development of the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) by improving knowledge and expertise in sustainable development, including data, partnership building, and evidence-based policy and decision making.
