ESCWA is organizing the Second Palestinian National Workshop on AquaCrop for Irrigation Water Management within the framework of its project on “Enhancing Resilience and Sustainability of Agriculture in the Arab region”. This project includes organization of capacity building activities at the national level and developing policy guidelines at the wider regional level to inform decision making for enhanced integrated policy development towards enhancing agriculture.
The Workshop is organized in cooperation with the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Lands and Dry Zones (ACSAD) for a duration of five days, and it aims at strengthening national capacities of Palestinian stakeholders on the use GIS tools for extracting and analyzing climate data developed within the framework of the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR). It will also strengthen national capacities on the use of Aquacrop model for irrigation management, and on the use of Aquacrop model for the assessment of the impact of climate change on crop yields.
The Training Workshop will target the trainees of the first workshop organized for Palestine within the framework of the Development Account project, which was held during the period 16-19 September 2019 in Beirut, Lebanon.
A Guidebook on Use of GIS for Climatic Data Analysis irrigation water management, developed specifically for this purpose in cooperation with ACSAD will be used to inform the Workshop. Participants will include a team of soil and water specialists from the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture.
