The Mauritania Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the National Agency for Statistics and Demographic and Economic Analysis are partnering with ESCWA and the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office for Mauritania to organize a workshop aimed at discussing the findings and implications of the technical report “Optimizing Poverty Reduction Pathways in Mauritania: Using the National Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI-M)”.
The workshop is part of ongoing work with Mauritania on optimization, and includes the following objectives:
- Provide a background on multidimensional poverty in Mauritania;
- Introduce the concept of optimizing and accelerating reductions in multidimensional poverty;
- Disseminate the results of the technical report “Optimizing Poverty Reduction Pathways in Mauritania: Using the MPI-M”;
- Discuss the various optimization scenarios for each region;
- Explain to a technical audience of statisticians and economists the assumptions of the economic models applied;
- Provide hands-on knowledge in using the ESCWA Multidimensional Poverty Assist Tool and the optimization model used for the Mauritania MPI.
