The Development Account project on measuring, monitoring and improving performance in regional integration within the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and ESCWA regions aims to provide a robust regional integration index to be used by Member States to monitor and evaluate their economic integration performance. Within the framework of the project, ESCWA is organizing a regional workshop in Morocco. The session is the first of a series of four.
This regional workshop is a capacity-building activity for discussing policymaking tools developed by ESCWA and evaluating potential needs for additional tools for economic integrating monitoring and evaluation, allowing following-up and evaluating in force trade agreements.
In the workshop, Member States are being introduced to ESCWA’s System of Indices to Monitor and Evaluate Arab Integration (SIMEAI) performance tool. SIMEAI aims to strengthen Member States’ technical capacities to negotiate new trade agreements that go beyond trade in goods to include trade in services, investment and intellectual property rights.
The workshop enables Member States to use ESCWA’s economic integration monitoring and evaluation system to develop evidence-based economic integration strategies, scenario analyses and impact studies.
