Amid interconnected development challenges, urban inequalities and strained local capacities, and in the framework of achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda, ESCWA is organizing a side event of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, in partnership with the United Nations regional economic commissions and UN-Habitat.
The event, “Building urban resilience and responding to crises through Sustainable Development Goals localization”, aims to shed light on regional initiatives to localize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and develop coherent urban policies. It also showcases how these initiatives can help enhance urban resilience, and enable cities to spearhead post-pandemic recoveries and develop voluntary local reviews. The event highlights the importance of local-national policy coherence and fosters interregional dialogue and exchange of learnings from cities and local authorities on urban-related SDGs.
