Within the framework of inter-regional cooperation on the implementation of the New Urban AgendaESCWA is co-organizing a high level inter-regional segment at the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Forum of Mayors in Geneva, with all United Nations regional commissions and the Global Cities Hub.

The interregional segment is key to encouraging different regions to share their knowledge and experiences. Participants in the forum include mayors who share their insights and views on selected urban initiatives under the umbrella of urban regeneration.

Outcome document

The interregional segment within the Forum of Mayors successfully fostered cross-regional collaboration on urban regeneration. Mayors from diverse regions actively engaged in roundtable discussions, sharing insights, strategies, and best practices. This collaborative effort, organized in partnership with the Geneva Cities Hub and UN Regional Commissions, has established a solid foundation for a global network of cities committed to sustainable urban development.

The dedicated interregional segment during the Forum of Mayors has already taken place, focusing on inclusive and people-centered urban regeneration. Mayors participated in roundtable discussions, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in decision-making processes. This collaborative effort, organized with the Geneva Cities Hub and UN Regional Commissions, has advanced the integration of diverse voices into city development plans.

The Forum of Mayors successfully integrated a dedicated interregional segment, addressing the alignment of urban regeneration efforts with SDGs. Mayors engaged in fruitful discussions, sharing strategies on incorporating SDG 11 and relevant targets into their city strategic plans. This segment has contributed to a unified approach across regions, emphasizing the interconnected nature of sustainability in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
