ESCWA is organizing the fourth annual workshop for focal points on ageing in member States, dedicated to continuing the discussion initiated in the previous workshop and exploring the issue of protecting older persons from abuse, violence and neglect to advance the rights of older persons.
The workshop includes a presentation of the preliminary results of ESCWA research on national legal and policy frameworks related to the protection of older persons from abuse, violence and neglect in Arab countries. It also explores proposed activities for 2025, including the launch of the fifth regional review process of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing at the end of 2025, and the establishment of a regional network on ageing.
Participants include focal points on ageing in Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia and Yemen, as well as experts on older persons' issues.
