The Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) at UN-ESCWA, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), co-organized a meeting of Arab e-Government program directors, on 9 February 2014, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as a side event of the Government Summit -2014.
This meeting included a presentation to launch the UN-ESCWA study on e-government strategies in the Arab region, a presentation to launch the Government Electronic and Mobile Service (GEMS) maturity index, and the second consultative meeting to discuss the proposal establishing Arab e-Government programs directors council, that would promote regional cooperation and knowledge sharing and exchange in the field of e-government among Arab countries. ICTD Regional Advisor, Nawar Al-Awa, contributed to the organization of this meeting, and delivered a presentation about the updated proposal of the Council.
The meeting concluded by identifying the participation of several Arab countries in the pilot phase of the GEMS index, and determining practical future steps towards the establishment of the Arab e-government programs directors Council.
