The Capacity Building Workshop builds on the outcome of the discussions during the “Regional Conference on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration: Implementation and Policy Implications for the Arab Region”. It aims to enhance the participants' awareness of the policy implications of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the Arab States, and ways to engage in the implementation and review processes. In addition, participants are informed about the role of the UN Network for Migration and the support it provides to member States.

The Workshop is co-organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), the League of Arab States (LAS), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Working Group* on International Migration in the Arab Region. Its participants include policymakers from a range of government ministries focused on migration issues.

* One of the working groups of the Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM), the Working Group on International Migration in the Arab Region is a regional inter-agency working group composed of 18 UN agencies and the League of Arab States.
