Workshop on knowledge-based economy

The transition to a knowledge-based economy (KBE) is considered a decisive issue in all countries in general, and in countries affected by conflict in particular, because it allows them to accelerate recovery and move towards economic growth.
 
On 5 April, ESCWA, in partnership with the Higher Commission for Scientific Research in Syria, organized a virtual workshop on KBE policies and indicators. The ministries of higher education and scientific research; of communications and technology; and of economy and foreign trade were also involved.
 
Participants discussed the role of innovation in fostering a KBE, highlighted examples of country experiences in transitioning to a KBE, and discussed initiatives developed by the HCSR and other concerned national entities in that regard.
