Data in conflict and humanitarian settings in the Arab region

Reliable and timely data is crucial for effective policymaking. In several Arab countries, the national statistical systems have been negatively affected by conflicts, resulting in limited data collection procedures, a disfunction of statistical systems, and the difficulty of having large statistical operations such as undertaking a population and housing census.

On 7 March, ESCWA organized within the AFSD a session on “Data in conflict and humanitarian settings in the Arab region”. Participants explored a methodological framework for using multiple data sources to strengthen statistical data and operations in conflict and humanitarian settings.

They also discussed the importance of using emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to ensure reliable data in humanitarian settings.
