Since 2020, the world has experienced a challenging food situation due to disruptions brought on by the impact of COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine. Their impact has strongly affected the Arab region due to existing challenges including conflicts, economic downturns and high dependence on food imports.
ESCWA held a virtual expert meeting on 14 December to take stock of the ongoing food-related challenges and vulnerabilities in the region, and outline selected pathways for an improved food security situation.
More than 30 food and agriculture experts from the region exchanged views on pathways towards achieving food security. The meeting’s structure was based on the ESCWA report on “Arab Food Security Vulnerabilities and Pathways”.
