Rainfed agriculture in the Arab region holds considerable promise for reducing poverty, improving food security, and enhancing climate resilience. However, despite the availability of well-known technologies and practices that could significantly elevate its potential, rainfed agriculture remains largely untapped, hindered by inadequate systems.
On 10 December, ESCWA, AOAD, and the Government of Sweden jointly hosted a session during COP28, shedding light on the pivotal role of rainfed agriculture in fortifying the resilience of Arab food systems amid environmental and climate challenges.
Participants engaged in discussions exploring the untapped potential of these practices, conducting assessments of the current state of rainfed systems in the region, and deliberating on strategies for improvement.
