ESCWA ES giving a statement at a session dedicated to the responsible and inclusive management of critical energy transition minerals.

On the sidelines of the UN climate change conference (COP28) held in Dubai, UAE, from 30 November to 12 December, ESCWA and the other UN Regional Economic Commissions convened a session dedicated to the responsible and inclusive management of critical energy transition minerals.
 
The session, held on 6 December, focused on sustainable mining for technologies such as solar and wind energy, as part of a just, inclusive energy transition for a sustainable future. The discussions underscored the need for effective policy mechanisms, robust finance and investment strategies, the promotion of best practices, and strengthened multilateral cooperation to ensure the sustainable and equitable extraction of minerals.
 
In a related context, ESCWA participated in a high-level roundtable on renewable energy and climate action in the GCC counties.
