Research Impact Assessment
The workshop, which was attended by members of the ETC board of governors, representing 16 Arab countries, aimed to hone the skills of scientific research leaders in the planning and development of assessment programs to deepen their knowledge of the mechanism for the implementation and assessment of research impact. It also highlighted most notable strategies and tools for research impact assessment.
QNRF Executive Director Abdul Sattar Al-Taie gave an overview of the Fund’s experience with financing research, and presented the Rand Corporation’s report on assessing the impact of research financed by the Fund.
QNRF Director Post Award Omar Boukhris delivered a presentation on the main pillars for the process of research impact assessment, which are understanding the said process; identifying research objectives; identifying methodologies and indicators for the success of the assessment; sharing the assessment results and controlling and fine-tuning the process of research impact assessment.
Also participating in the workshop was the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS) Director General, Moneef Zou’bi who delivered a lecture on the objectives of scientific research in Arab States.
For his part, ETC Executive Director Fouad Mrad presented the facts related to research impact assessment in Arab States, noting the importance of linking them to the sustainable development goals, and the priorities of Arab States in the implementation of these Goals. He also tackled the trends in sub-regional scientific research and local capacities in science, technology and innovation.
