Despite significant water scarcity and security challenges facing the Arab region, the water sector receives only a small share of climate finance flows. The sector also remains relatively underfunded compared to the articulated needs of Arab States.
As part of the Green Climate Fund Regional Dialogue held in Rabat, ESCWA co-organized a session on 27 June on preparing evidence-based project pipelines for mobilizing climate finance for water.
Participants reviewed climate finance flows to the water sector in the region and shared regional experiences in developing evidence-based project pipelines to mobilize climate finance for water and sanitation projects and agricultural water resources.
