On 29 November, ESCWA observed the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People through a virtual official ceremony. The event included statements from ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, represented by Minister of Youth and Sports Georges Kallas, and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh.
In her statement, Dashti underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict through the implementation of international law and relevant Security Council resolutions. This, she emphasized, is essential for achieving a just and sustainable peace that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The event also featured a message from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and a keynote address by former Executive Director of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Roth.
