On 22 March, ESCWA marked World Water Day with a virtual awards ceremony, during which it paid tribute to three young students from Lebanon who took part in a challenge on Valuing Water, organized in partnership with the Lebanon Youth Parliament for Water. Contestants were invited to submit a short article, anecdote or poem that describes what water means to them.
The first prize winner, Christelle Sideri, wrote in her poem: “… Nevertheless, on a new morning I will come back to battle the stones on the shore. I will become again what I should never have ceased to be, that is to say the source of life, I am: Water.”
“Access to water is a matter of life or death, but the problem is we do take it for granted,” wrote Sina Gaith who ranked second with her article. Meanwhile, third winner Celine Mourad called for recognizing “the power of water today, otherwise there would be no life on Earth, unless humans work together to restore nature’s balance”.
