While adaptation remains a top priority for the region, grappling with escalating water and food insecurity along with threats to ecosystems, Arab countries are encouraged to collaborate in pursuing mitigation actions, particularly through just and inclusive sustainable energy transitions.
On 3 December during COP28, ESCWA, LAS, AFESD, UNEP, WMO, FAO, and the Government of Sweden held a session titled “Arab Cooperation for Climate Action in Water, Energy and Food Systems”.
The session explored potential synergies and complementarities between adaptation and mitigation efforts in critical sectors including water, agriculture, and energy within the region.
