The Social Justice Team of the Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development Cluster in ESCWA is organizing a workshop on using the Social Justice Policy Gap Assessment Tool (PGAT) for assessing wage policy in Lebanon.
The workshop aims to:
- Train the participants on how to use the PGAT, elaborating on the assessment process and different steps involved at the planning and implementation stages;
- Build the capacity of participants to extract assessment results and use the Social Justice Barometer;
- Carry out a hands-on assessment of the extent that wage policy in Lebanon integrates social justice principles, and identify the existing gaps and opportunities, with support from ESCWA facilitators;
- Contribute to the preparation of the national report on the assessment of wage policy in Lebanon that ESCWA is producing in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour;
- Discuss the reforms required to fill the gaps revealed by the assessment as well as the options available to support the Ministry in improving wages in light of the economic and social crises that Lebanon is undergoing.
The workshop gathers a number of officials concerned with the development and implementation of wage policy, and Ministry of Labour programmes and projects. Also present are officials who represent other government entities concerned with wages and workers’ protection such as the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Statistical Bureau and the National Social Security Fund. Representatives from local social and economic institutions and law and labour experts from academia and non-governmental sector are attending.
