ESCWA held the Sixth EGM on the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR) in Cairo during the period 7-8 December 2014. The meeting was jointly organized with the League of Arab States in collaboration with RICCAR partner organizations and with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) under its support to the RICCAR.
The meeting aimed to report on the progress achieved in implementing the Regional Initiative through presenting the findings of the regional climate modelling ensembles for the Arab Domain as well as the hydrological modelling component of the integrated assessment that builds upon the regional climate modelling outputs.
In addition, identified socio-economic and environmental indicators related to the climate change vulnerability assessment component of the integrated assessment were also discussed during the meeting as well as the institutionalization of cooperative arrangements fostered under RICCAR including the establishment of a Regional Knowledge Hub and the set-up of an Arab Climate Outlook Forum (ArabCOF).
