The joint technical secretariat of the Joint Water-Agriculture Council of the League of Arab States is organizing the sixth meeting of the High-Level Joint Water-Agriculture Technical Committee (HLJTC) on the sidelines of the 2024 Cairo Water Week, with support from ESCWA and the Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa.
The objectives of the sixth HLJTC meeting include following up on the implementation of the recommendations of its fifth meeting and proposing recommendations on the following items:
- Following up on the implementation of the priorities identified within the timetable for implementing the Cairo Declaration Action Plan.
- Following up on the implementation of activities related to the use of non-conventional water resources for agriculture in the Arab region.
- Following up on the implementation of the pilot application of guidelines to improve the allocation of water resources for agriculture in a sustainable manner.
- Following up on the implementation of directions regarding filling the data gap in the fields of water and agriculture by applying spatial information (remote sensing and geographic data).
- Implementation of the fifth item related to enhancing the resilience of the agriculture and water sectors facing climate change.
The meeting brings together senior officials from the ministries of water and agriculture in Arab countries, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations and relevant experts.
