ESCWA is organizing a dialogue with members of parliaments in Arab countries to discuss the protection of older persons from violence, abuse and neglect.
The dialogue enables participants to present developments regarding national legislative frameworks that address issues of abuse and violence against older persons, and to discuss challenges and gaps related to detecting, reporting and criminalizing abuse and violence, in addition to access of older persons to legal protection. It provides a platform to exchange experiences and best practices on the participation of parliamentarians in national efforts to advance the issues of older persons and protect them from abuse, violence and neglect, through their legislative, oversight and representative roles. The dialogue is also an opportunity to discuss ESCWA activities related to older persons for the year 2025.
Participants include Arab parliamentarians concerned with population and social issues, including members of specialized committees on legislation, social affairs, education, health and human rights.
