Review of the Arab regional report on Beijing+20

ESCWA, in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) and the Department of Women, the Family and Children's Affairs at the League of Arab States, is holding an expert group meeting to review the regional report on progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action after 20 years (Beijing+20).

The meeting brings together representatives of national women's machineries in 15 countries and regional experts. It aims at presenting and discussing the preliminary version of the regional report, and includes several working sessions on related topics.

Outcome document

The expert group meeting provided an opportunity to present and discuss the draft regional report and to deliberate on Women's emerging situation in the light of the critical situation experienced by most Arab countries. And it was an occasion not only to review countries' achievements in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 20 years later, but also to identify and seek to overcome the most significant obstacles and challenges still facing the States of the region and to identify emerging priorities and recommendations to complement joint efforts for the next five years to support women issues accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the Arab region.
