The 24th meeting of the Regional Coordination Mechanism was held at the League of Arab States’ headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Monday, 22 October 2018, affording members of the UN Family in the Arab region, the League of Arab States and Subsidiary bodies the opportunity to reflect collectively and identify joint priorities and initiatives.
In this year’s discussions, participants focused on Financing for Development (FfD) and charted the way forward for essential initiatives in the Arab region. UN agencies, together with the World Bank are working to define appropriate strategies and approaches for the Arab region on the principle of shared responsibility in mobilizing and effectively using all sources of finance for development.
The 24th RCM meeting special sessions on FfD aimed to enhance these efforts by establishing concrete recommendations that respond to the demands of the 2030 Agenda and the on-going changes as a result of the United Nations Development System reform.
In the attempt to further deepen the collaboration with the Regional UNDG, and following up on last year’s successful experience, the 24th RCM meeting was held back-to-back with the Regional UNDG meeting.
