ESCWA has since 2011 been coordinating with ESCAP and the other UN-Regional Commissions in the implementation of an ESCAP lead project on “Enhancing energy security and improving access to energy services through development of public-private renewable energy partnerships”. Within this project’s context, a national team was established in Jordan, and was charged with collecting data on and identifying Renewable Energy (RE) PPPs case studies in poor and/or rural areas of Jordan. The team, which is being lead by the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) of Jordan is comprised of designated experts from the public sectors, NGOs, the private sector, universities, research institutions….who have collected data on seven Renewable Energy (RE) PPPs case studies in poor and/or rural areas of Jordan, and conducted assessments about these case studies through evaluating their current status, identifying any constraints being faced, and proposing suitable follow-up solutions. To complete and showcase the efforts done by the RSS team, ESCWA is organizing in cooperation with RSS a National Training Workshop on the Role of Public-Private Partnership in the Implementation of Renewable Energy Projects in Rural Areas , from 3 to 4 2014, at the RSS headquarters in Amman, Jordan. The Workshop aims at presenting the case studies mentioned above, and assessing them through evaluating their current status, identifying any constraints being faced, and proposing suitable follow-up solutions for public-private partnership models. The seven case studies to be addressed during the Workshop cover five grid connected PV systems, one standalone PV system, and one solar home system. The second day of the Workshop will be dedicated to a field visit to the Dead Sea Panorama Complex, 60 Km from Amman to visit a 100 kW PV System.
