Maghreb launch of the Arab MDG report

The city of Rabat, Morocco is hosting the Launching of the Arab MDGs Report 2013: Facing Challenges and Looking Beyond 2015" tomorrow 18 January 2014. This launching, which is organised by the Ministry of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development of the Kingdom of Morocco, The League of Arab States and ESCWA will be followed by a training workshop on "Poverty and Inequality Measures" from 19 until 22 January 2014. The opening ceremony will witness speeches by Dr Bassima Al Haqaoui, Minister of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Tarek Al Nabulsi, Head of Coordination and follow up Unit of the Cabinet of  Assistant secretary general for Social Affairs of the League of Arab States, and Mr. Khalid Abu-Ismail, Chief Economic Policy Section at ESCWA. The opening ceremony will be followed by a presentation of the report and a discussion on measures of poverty and inclusive development, in particular the Global Human Development Index., the multi-dimensional poverty, the needs of the Arab region in light of the results of the report, the location of the Arab region on the global development map beyond 2015. The training workshop will mainly focus on: introduction of poverty and inequality measures, concepts and measures of the money metric poverty, concepts and measures of inequality, using POVCAL software to calculate money metric poverty and inequality, using ADePT software to calculate money metric poverty and inequality, concepts and measures of child poverty and human development. Additionally, the workshop will discuss the agenda for measuring multidimensional poverty in the Arab region as well as the collaboration between ESCWA and Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI)for measurement of multidimensional poverty."
