ESCWA will hold a four-day workshop on "International Migration and Development in the Arab Region: Integrating International Migration into Development Strategies” from 19 to 22 July 2010, with the assistance of the International Organization for Migration, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development and the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development. This workshop is part of a two-year, multi-regional project on "Strengthening National Capacities to Deal with International Migration: Maximizing Development Benefits and Minimizing Negative Impacts". The workshop will aim to enhance ESCWA member country capacities to maximize the development benefits of migration through mainstreaming migration into development strategies. It also aims to improve data-gathering and dissemination of migration statistics, and promote regional dialogue on migration and development issues. This will be achieved through the presentation of a specially-commissioned report on migration and development in the Arab region, presentations from experts, as well as hands-on training.
