The five United Nations regional commissions, including ESCWA, have collaborated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), member States and other stakeholders to conduct periodical regional reviews of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
In this context, the regional commissions are holding a joint side-event at the 57th Commission on Population and Development to discuss the regional reviews. The event aims to examine the findings of each of review, and reflect on progress achieved, gaps, challenges, and the way forward. It also focuses on key elements of an enabling environment for implementation and on follow-up actions undertaken by the regional commissions with their respective partners to support member States in accelerating the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action.
