ESCWA and ANND organized a Civil Society Forum to foster dialogue on development challenges in the Arab region from a civil society perspective. The Forum delivered key messages to the 4th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit and concluded with a set of recommendations that called for a new development model conducive to social justice, and to mainstream such issues as culture, citizenship, tolerance, and knowledge economy among others in the development processes. The Forum called for improving tax and redistribution policies, increase access to social protection by adopting social protection floors, and reforming trade and investment policies to better respond to national development priorities. The Forum also emphasized partnerships and dialogue between various stakeholders to achieve sustainable development and social justice by establishing coordination and advisory mechanisms aimed at building and strengthening effective partnerships between Arab States and civil society organizations at the national and regional levels.
