ESCWA is participating in the 7th session of the intergovernmental group of experts (IGE) on consumer protection law and policy, as well as the 21st session of the IGE on competition law and policy, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The meetings aim to facilitate discussions on addressing challenges, fostering the exchange of experiences and best practices, and promoting advancements in consumer protection and competition policies. They tackle consumer protection in the context of transitioning to clean energy and building trust in digital markets, among others. The meetings also address topics such as competition law enforcement issues raised by monopsonies and the interaction between competition and industrial policies.
Within this context, ESCWA is highlighting the initiatives it has undertaken to advance competition policy and law in the Arab region, particularly since the launch of the Arab Competition Forum.
Participants include relevant authorities and stakeholders from member States, as well as experts and international organizations.
