On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a worldwide advocacy campaign, ESCWA has joined together with the Institute for Women’s Study in the Arab World (IWSAW) at LAU, and UNFPA to organize a regional arts competition on the theme: “Violence Against Women: Whose Problem, Is It?”. The competition is open to all Arab youth under 25 years old. Participants can submit paintings, videos, photos, poems, music, or any form of art to enter the competition between 1 November and 25 November 2017.

The winner(s) will be determined by a panel and showcased at an event that will be held on 7 December 2017 at LAU in Beirut. Winning submissions will also be featured on Lebanese and regional media platforms. The event will feature an intervention from Rand Abdul Nour, a Jordanian artist who has created powerful artwork to raise awareness of gender-based violence. She will discuss how injustice, notably violence against women, feeds into her creative process, and how art can help to tackle social issues.
