The present guide sets out United Nations resolutions on women, and considers the four pillars of the women, peace and security agenda, namely prevention, protection, participation, and peacebuilding and recovery. The guide also tackles implementation issues and the roles of parliamentarians.
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) prepared this guide in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to highlight the efforts of national machineries for women’s advancement in the field of mainstreaming gender in government institutions and national policies and legislation. The guide reviews the initiatives and activities of these machineries, identifies their accomplishments and challenges, draws lessons from good practices, and presents public policy recommendations.
