January 2020

The Social Development Bulletin describes the road to the historic adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in December 2018, its principles, objectives and relevance for the Arab region. The follow-up and review process of the Global Compact for Migration at the global and regional level is detailed as well.

Finally, the essence of the Global Compact for Migration’s novel approach to migration is explicated, including its focus on data and evidence, its rights-based, gender-responsive and child-sensitive approach and its call for cooperation across different sectors and levels of government and with all stakeholders.
