Synthesis report towards the formulation of a strategic framework to protect older persons: areas and priorities for intervention
June 2021
Morocco is witnessing an unprecedented demographic transition marked by a noticeable drop in fertility and an acceleration in population ageing. Given the challenges that this demographic transition poses, and the structural shortcomings of the social protection system, it has become necessary to intervene proactively to address the repercussions of these challenges on the financing of pensions, and respond to health needs, and the provision of assistance and care services.
In this context, the Ministry of Family, Solidarity, Equality and Social Development worked, in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), to prepare a strategic framework for the advancement of the situation of older persons. This work falls within the framework of the regional project implemented by ESCWA, entitled "Strengthening national capacities to develop integrated and comprehensive population policies in the Arab region."
