Ageing in ESCWA member States: Third review and appraisal of the Madrid international plan of action on ageing
January 2017
The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the findings of the third review of the 2002 Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) in ESCWA countries and highlights prevalent and emerging issues in the region fifteen years after the adoption of MIPAA.
Findings are primarily based on submissions prepared by national government focal points on ageing, nominated by ESCWA member countries to complete a MIPAA Survey Questionnaire prepared by ESCWA. After providing an overview of the key demographic transitions and population projections in ESCWA countries, the report presents data on institutional arrangements and policy and legislative progress made in response to MIPAA, focusing on developments in the past five years.
