Navigating the challenges and opportunities of desalination through renewable energies in the Arab region

Recognized as an increasingly vital solution for fulfilling freshwater requirements globally, desalination holds particular significance in the Arab region, where many nations face severe freshwater stress.
 
On 10 December during COP28, ESCWA, LAS and RCREEE held a session which delved into the challenges and opportunities associated with desalination using renewable energies in the region.
 
The session highlighted prevailing energy regulations, policies, and institutional structures linked to water desalination with renewable energy. Participants gained insights into the important role of the public sector in fostering awareness and explored how cutting-edge technologies can propel the clean energy transition in the region.
