On the sidelines of the 54th Session of the Commission on Population and Development, ESCWA, LAS and UNFPA organized, on 21 April, a virtual regional meeting gathering member State representatives and members of national population councils.
The meeting explored linkages between population, food security, nutrition and sustainable development in the Arab region, focusing on the significant impact of COVID-19 on those sectors and the experiences of countries in addressing related challenges.
Participants discussed the consequences of the pandemic in terms of closures and social distancing in particular, and their repercussions on people’s livelihoods. They also examined measures to improve food security and nutrition among various population groups in the current conditions.
