Workshop on Management Skills for Iraqis

Within the Context of the UNDP project "Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening of Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works" in Iraq, the Unit for Emerging and Conflict Related Issues of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing four workshops on "Management Skills for Iraqis" in Amman, Jordan which will be held from 17 November till 19 December 2007. The four workshops are to be held at the following dates: (Workshop 1) from 17 to 28 November 2007, (Workshop 2) from 24 November to 5 December 2007, (Workshop 3) from 1 to 12 December 2007, (Workshop 4) from 8 to 19 December 2007. The objective of the workshops is to improve the managerial and administrative skills of middle managers from Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MoMPW). The workshops which are addressed to middle managers from the Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works from the headquarters in Baghdad and the offices of the Ministry in the governorates will include in-class training sessions such as: New trends in public administration and managing challenges of globalization, strategic planning and management, human resources management, as well as relevant field visits to public institutions. It will introduce participants to modern models and concepts of public sector management, with special focus on the delivery of municipal services.
