The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will be organizing discussions for a Virtual Panel of Experts (VPE) on reviewing the first draft of a "Detailed Assessment of Regional Needs and Priorities and Identification of Implementation Mechanism" during 3-24 September 2007.

The discussions come in line with the Pre-Feasibility Study on Establishment of the ESCWA Technology Centre for Development, which was approved during the 24th Ministerial Session whence the Detailed Assessment was identified as one of the Special Activities relating to launching the ESCWA Technology Centre for Development. The discussions shall aim at a thorough revision of the Detailed Assessment's first draft with view to enhancing its content and delivering it as a second draft to the Expert Consultation Meeting on Priority Science and Technology Domains scheduled to take place in November 2007.

Objective

To review the first draft of the report produced under Special Activity C: "Detailed Assessment of Regional Needs and Priorities and Identification of Implementation Mechanisms" in preparation to the Expert Consultation - listed as Special Activity D.

Organization

Participants in the VPE will include selected distinguished experts from research centres, academic institutions, governmental bodies, ministries and enterprises engaged in STI activities, as well as representatives of international and regional development agencies

Participation will be limited to invitees.
