ESCWA is organizing a workshop aimed at training representatives from Morocco, Oman and Tunisia on the use of remote sensing to estimate quantities of groundwater used for irrigation, with support from the Government of Sweden. The workshop is being held following the development of a training manual on this topic, as well as the expressed interest of Morocco, Oman and Tunisia to apply the study to selected aquifers.
The workshop aims to:
- Present and explain the manual on using remote sensing to estimate the quantities of groundwater used for irrigation, including the required data, and the existing opportunities and challenges;
- Guide trainees in applying the manual to the study area, draw conclusions about the study findings, and inform decision-making related to groundwater management;
- Enable national teams to use the Arab Groundwater Knowledge Platform;
- Add the outputs of each study to the Arab Groundwater Knowledge Platform.
