National Training Workshop to Benefit from the Lebanese Experience in Human Development

In cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) in Lebanon and the Institute for Women's Studies in the Arab World/Lebanese American University (LAU), ESCWA will organize a "National Training Workshop to Benefit from the Lebanese Experience in Human Development" during 6-12 August 2007 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Workshop is designed to target concerned NGOs, official bodies, farmers unions and women organizations from north and south Iraq with view to building a well trained cadre of social workers that are able to conduct literacy training within the context of gender mainstreaming and women empowerment. The Workshop's themes and objective's may be listed as: (a) conveying techniques and skills of literacy training; (b) building capacities of participating NGOs, official bodies and institutions towards the delivery of literacy training programmes within the context of advocacy and awareness dissemination i.e. reproductive health, youth-adult continued education; (c) capacity building for trainers to undertake social obligations and participate in community development; (d) Support the upgrading of skills and knowledge of trainers with special emphasis on girls, illiterate and semi-illiterate women in undertaking social duties. Five NGOs, a major Farmer Union encompassing almost 60 NGOs, official bodies and women's associations shall be participating at the Workshop and have already submitted plans on utilizing the training within their work programmes. A non-formal integrated educational kit with many tools to facilitate the learning process such as games, illustrations, posters, colored pictures, documents, and case studies shall be used in support of the training. At the end of the seven training sessions a number of training kits will be distributed to participating parties.
